![]() ![]() However, the display worked in every browser with a UI we could think to use on a Mac. You might run into some lag issues, and certain lines may not register if they are particularly long, or you if go a long time without taking our finger off the screen while using the eraser tool. The display of strokes isn’t fluid, but under my network conditions, it was far from choppy. The browser then displays a custom webpage that uses JavaScript and the canvas element of HTML5. Or, if you're using a browser that is Bonjour-aware, you can join a Bonjour session. The software broadcasts through a built-in Web server running on port 8080 by default, which you can access by manually entering the IP of the device (an e-mail can be sent from the application). ![]() Qrayon makes no guarantees about the number of clients that can view a sketch at one time, though, as individual network performance is a major factor (creating an ad hoc network might improve performance). Similarly, a computer lab could have the contents displayed on multiple monitors, without any serious configuration. ![]() The advantages to this are apparent when you think about business meetings and classroom settings: you can wirelessly display the contents of the iPad for a large crowd via another computer and a projector. The difference between taking a picture of the contents and taking a screenshot is that the picture can have sketches and drawings erased, and the undo/redo states are saved.Īs we alluded to earlier, the feature that sets AirSketch apart is the ability to view real-time progress in a modern browser on the same local network. You can also take snapshots of a drawing and load it from a pop-up dialogue inside the application. The application allows you to crop, resize, rotate, and align the image, meaning you don’t have to break out an image editing tool to prepare your images for the AirSketch. This could be anything from a photograph to a screen capture of a website. The ability to load any image from the device's image roll into a drawing is very useful. Another improvement would be the ability to zoom in on your drawing, making it easier to add fine details. That being said, it would be nice to have a few additional shape tools, as well as arrows, and there is more than enough room within the UI to add these features. The app is relatively simple to use, thanks to the basic drawing tools. If you accidentally delete the contents of a drawing, they can easily be brought back thanks to multiple levels of undo/redo. The eraser tool is also fixed radius this can be problematic if you have a large area of content to erase, but the developer has attempted to mitigate this somewhat by allowing the user to clear the entire screen with a single touch of an icon. ![]() There are eight color slots available that you can customize by double-tapping one of the default colors and then using a color picker to select the new color. These tools include a pencil, a pen, a marker, a paint brush, and a highlighter the last two are somewhat transparent and respond to color overlay appropriately. The drawing tools in AirSketch are fairly rudimentary there are five different writing implements to choose from, each with a fixed radius and opacity. Upon closer examination, however, it turns out that the application has one important feature up its sleeve that sets it head and shoulders above the rest: drawing progress can be viewed in real time using any Web browser with rudimentary HTML5 support, as long as it's on the same local network. AirSketch is a new application from Qrayon LLC which, at first glance, seems to be just another basic whiteboard app. ![]()
